NAOPO Councils

NAOPO sponsors two councils, the Data and Research Council (DARC) and the National NH/PI Policy Council. Our NAOPO Councils are consisted of NH/PI members of distinguished talents who all share the vision of a thriving national and international Pasifika network of care rooted in Oceanian values and culture that perpetuate the traditions of Pasifika Peoples and of our NAOPO Board of Directors and members. NAOPO’s councils have since grown their membership and work  to continue addressing the needs and advancing the wellness of NH/PI communities throughout the United States.

Data and Research Council (DARC)

The Data and Research Council (DARC) comprises of community, medical and policy experts focused on working towards data and research equity.

NH/PI Policy and Civic Engagement Council

The NH/PI Policy and Civic Engagement Council was created during the COVID-19 pandemic to address the many deep-seated disparities and injustices experienced by Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islander people since the pandemic and in more recent events. The NH/PI Policy Council has convened since June 2020 and is the most comprehensive Policy Council that is made up of state-based NH/PI coalition leaders who are gathered to co-design policy recommendations that are designed to uplift the unique needs and gifts of NH/PI communities throughout the United States.

In light of DARC and the Policy and Civic Engagement Council’s most recent work was a letter sent to the Office of Management and Budget’s (OMB) Standards for Maintaining, Collecting and Presenting Federal Data on Race and Ethnicity, when NAOPO’s councils were invited to comment on the revision of the Initial Proposals for Updating OMB’s Race and Ethnicity Statistical Standards (88 FR 5375).

The NAOPO councils are growing in membership and with their work to continue addressing the needs and advancing the wellness of NH/PI communities throughout the United States.
